Sometimes titles come easily — they can inspire the book, like Till Undeath Do Us Part. Sometimes they emerge only after the book’s first draft, like Unstable Orbits.
I’ve had my next title in mind for a long time — since I was scribbling the first draft in longhand on my iPad, probably in 2023. It lost favour when I decided to split the book into two, and I considered using it for the series title instead.
But it kept calling to me as the book 1 title, and it fits. So it’s back.
Say hello to…
BETWEEN TWO WORLDS
You not know what you not know
Book 1 of the Pod of Capricorn series, Between Two Worlds is a queer coming-of-age sci-fi adventure — with a touch of romance — about secrets, lies, found family, and things you don’t know you don’t know. Set on the generation ship Capricorn — a colony wheel thousands of years into a journey across the stars — it’s a dystopian drama with light and shade.
As a cocktail, it’s roughly three parts All That’s Left in the World (Erik J. Brown) for the dystopian future and burgeoning queer romance, and two parts The Darkness Outside Us (Eliot Schrefer) for the “generation ship full of secrets” vibe. It also contains several drops of Nineteen Eighty-Four (George Orwell) for the ubiquitous surveillance, and a splash of Riddley Walker (Russell Hoban) for the hypothetical future dialect of English.
See the Between Two Worlds information page on this site, which I’ll expand over time. Today it has the full book description (subject to change) and content notes. Later, it’ll include sales links, downloadable media, and review snippets.
And the cover is…
