Short biography
Anthony Camber writes intelligent, entertaining, original novels full of humour and heart, featuring strong LGBTQIA+ characters. He’s written gothic romance, thriller, satire, sci-fi, mystery and adventure, but not all at once. He marches at Pride, he’s a geek, and he’s a graduate of Downing College, Cambridge, where he still lives.
Long biography
Anthony Camber (he/him) started writing professionally in the early 1990s, working as a technical author in the software industry in Cambridge, UK. He progressed rapidly from dry release notes to informal guides and product specifications that people enjoyed reading, before turning more towards engineering. Over the decades he’s designed user interfaces, built websites, defined significant chunks of software platforms, and stayed resolutely awake through hundreds of meetings that could’ve been emails.
In 2011, embarking on a new phase as a freelance, he took up (deliberate) fiction as a side hustle. This led to the award-nominated novella Till Undeath Do Us Part. Novels followed: The Pink and the Grey, Disunited, The Pauline Conversion, and A Room Full of Elephants.
In 2017, he returned to office work and put the writing on hold for a while. When coffee shops reopened after the Covid-19 pandemic he started noodling with ideas again, scribbling thoughts — and eventually entire books — on his iPad in longhand using Apple Pencil. These eventually became Unstable Orbits and Between Two Worlds — plus its sequel, in preparation.
All of his books feature strong LGBTQIA+ characters and plots that appeal to all audiences. He specialises in intelligent, entertaining, original storytelling cross-genre and can find the humour in the darkest situations.
Away from the keyboard, he’s a keen supporter of equal rights for LGBTQIA+ people (there is no LGB without the T) and he marches at Pride in London when he can. He regularly nerds out on technology and science — especially anything space-related — and is a sucker for major sporting events.
A Computer Science graduate of Downing College, Cambridge University, he still lives in the city and you’ll often find him in a coffee shop with a mug of tea (decaf) and his MacBook (Air).
