The lovely people at Independent Book Review have published a very complimentary review of Between Two Worlds. If you don’t know this site, it focuses on independently published books rather than those from the major publishers, who already receive far too much attention thank you very much.

Authors can pay for reviews with IBR; I did not. I submitted BTW to them for consideration in the middle of August, ahead of publication. I didn’t expect to receive a review, as their FAQ says:

We receive between 500 and 1000 books per month in our free submissions inbox, and we accept only a small portion of them. Usually between five and ten. So while it’s true that more submissions are quietly rejected than accepted, we’ll always take flyers on books we believe can sell.

As Pod would say, “one dice in hundred they gonna choose it.” And yet, “the dice, they rolled good”.

Some choice quotes from the review:

  • “I held my breath in anticipation of reveals and laughed out loud at the jokes”
  • “the vernacular is soaked in story-specific terms that make for a highly engaging reading experience”
  • “the lyrical storytelling had set itself to the beat of my heart”
  • “I grew attached to the rhythm of the story and its fierce, intriguing characters, and felt a growing reluctance to let it go when it ended”
  • “The author brilliantly infuses his story with the heady mix of young love and lust”
  • “a stunning cliffhanger … has us craving the next book, which I definitely will pick up”

I’ve updated the front page of this site with the first two quotes, and the book page and Press kit page have the complete set. The Goodreads book page has the quotes too.

Amazon listings do not strictly permit review quotes. I’ve revised my “A+ content” for the book – the big banner-style graphics under the heading “From the publisher” – to include the first two quotes. They’ll appear imminently/at Amazon’s leisure. Here they are anyway:

Talking of book 2: I’m approaching the end of the third revision, after which it’ll go to a beta reader. I’d better get back to it!

A queer coming-of-age dystopian sci-fi adventure with light, shade, and a touch of romance. A story of secrets, lies, found family, and things you don’t know you don’t know.
